Most US builders use SureSeal

It also designs and manufactures sail track and hardware systems to make mainsailhandling problems all but disappear.
They say with hundreds of thousands of units sold, Tides Marine's SureSeal shaft seals are used by more US leisure boatbuilders than any other.
The products are all designed and built to American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) standards and the company is a member of the American Boat and Yacht Council and is also an International Standards Organization (ISO) certified facility.
The UK end of Tides Marine International is based in Poole, Dorset, and offers the entire catalogue.
The SureSeal shown here has a housing made from fibrereinforced composite material that is unaffected by temperature changes and will not absorb water.
The integral PTFE bearing extends the operating life of the unit and should the water injection system fail to provide lubrication to the lip seal and bearing surface, the integrity of the bearing and housing is unaffected, allowing the operator to simply change the lip seal to restore its 100% watertight characteristic.
The seal is connected to the boat via an articulating hose, which achieves the right operating clearance without the need to measure. This reduces the side loads on the seal, even when shaft misalignment occurs - up to 1/4" in any direction, extending lip seal and bearing life.
