Fingers crossed for good SBS weather

Organisers National Boat Shows (NBS) says for 10 days in September, Southampton's Mayflower Park will be transformed into a fun filled Treasure Island, complete with colourful tall ships, live interactive pirate shows, live music and a fantastic sandy beach.

The Southampton Boat Show runs from September 15 to 24 and will aim at providing family fun. The Jubilee Sailing Trust's tall ships Lord Nelson and Tenacious will be there, together with a pirate jetty stage to keep kids entertained with a fun-packed schedule of live entertainment, including interactive theatrical performances, stilt walkers, dancing and music.

And the beach makes a return, offering an area for relaxation, plus sandcastle competitions, a steel band, RNLI demonstrations, Punch and Judy shows, giant beach games and delicious beach tucker (it says here?).

Miss Southampton Boat Show returns with boating beauties from around the UK battling it out for the title.

Entrants will be tested on their boating knowledge and will be given a variety of marine related tasks to perform to test their sea legs.

There will also be Try-a-Boat and Try-a-Dive, plus a Sunsail America's Cup boat for people to sail.

The marina is again sponsored by Hydropool and will feature such boats as the International Fund for Animal Welfare's (IFAW) whale research vessel, which is attending the show as part of the British Marine Federation (BMF) and RYA's Green Blue initiative.

Honda finishes its contract run at this show with its Dream Zone, where people can try their hand in a F1 pit stop.

Let's hope the late arrival of summer this year will be rewarded with an equally late arrival of the autumn gales, leaving the Southampton Boat Show bathed in glorious sunshine and cash-laden buyers?
