Por tsmouth Boat Show 'a disaster'
01 Jul 2006
The attendance was so low that some exhbitors called the show "a disaster".
According to County Exhibitions' Graham Kinnersley, Gunwharf Quays let him down by not producing promised brochures and posters. BB knows the show area well and can say no signage to the show was evident.
Another complaint by Kinnersley is that the area is one where youngsters hang around the shops. It's certainly true that Gunwharf Quays is one huge shopping mall and kids tend to hang around shopping malls.
But BB can also say there did not appear to be anything like a boat show at Gunwharf Quays that weekend. The boats were simply moored on the pontoons among all the boats: a casual visitor wouldn't have known there was a boat show taking place.
Whether this is the fault of Gunwharf Quays or County Exhibitions remains to be seen.
We left a message for Kinnersley asking to talk to him about the show, but he failed to respond.
Kinnersley was quoted on the Yachting Monthly website as saying: "I will never go back there."
County Exhibitions runs a boat show at Lowestoft and is, apparently, looking for other venues - including one on the South Coast - for short local boat shows.
