Grow Boating rumours emphatically denied says Jim Nolan

Grow Boating is the US recreational marine industry's initiative to promote the boating lifestyle and improve the boating experience that will ultimately increase participation in boating and lead to increases in sales of marine products and services.

This initiative includes components such as Dealer and Product Certification; Water Access; and the Discover Boating consumer marketing campaign. The consumer marketing campaign includes two television advertisements that began airing nationally the first week of April.

The two spots will run a total of nearly 2,900 times on major cable TV networks such as CNN, Fox Sports Network, TNT, ABC Family, The Country Music Channel, The History Channel, Discovery Channel, Nickelodeon and several others.

In addition to the television ads there are Discover Boating print and online ads. The print campaign includes five different ads that started appearing in the April editions of magazines such as Time, Popular Science, Sports Illustrated, Men's Journal, Outdoor Life and Family Fun.

There are a couple of rumours swirling about, namely, "Grow Boating paid-for advertising is not working, so they are now to concentrate their entire spend on PR and that the NMMA has found funding of the project difficult and has had to curtail some of the segments".

Thom Dammrich, president of the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), when asked about these rumours said "There is absolutely no truth to either rumour! ! How do these things get started? The media approach is not changed. Paid-for advertising is working beautifully. We are getting 12,000 unique visitors a day to our website, have generated over 20,000 leads, and are getting fabulous feedback from the boatbuilders and dealers. All aspects of Grow Boating are fully funded and moving forward aggressively. We are exceeding our funding collection expectations and are expanding, not curtailing, efforts. We are on plan and everything is working as anticipated."
