Seagleam forced out of business
01 Jun 2006
Seagleam, the Fishbourne, Isle of Wight, based boatbuilder and refit company has given up boatbuilding and refit work because it cannot find space to carry on, writes Iain Sutherland.
The company will continue as a management and consultancy operation. Its seven employees have all apparently found work elsewhere.
Seagleam rented premises from Aluminium Hovercraft Builders, which needed the space to expand.
Even aided by SEEDA and the Isle of Wight Council, the company failed to find new premises.
Said director David Codd:
"The Island is supposed to be at the centre of the marine industry, but there are not the yards."
Among others, the company worked for the RNLI which voiced disappointment at losing the yard.
