Yamaha says the digital sound projector range has recently scooped the two most coveted industry awards - Technology Product of the Year and Best Buy at the What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision Awards held at London's Hilton Hotel, Park Lane. The digital sound projectors have also been honoured by Good Housekeeping magazine in the innovation of the year awards.

The YSP-1000 Digital Sound Projector costs £899 and comprises just one component, in which are mounted tiny high power digital amplifiers powering discreet sound beam drivers that, in turn, deliver what Yamaha claims is "stunning surround sound quality and dynamics".

The drivers direct focused beams of sound all around any shape of space creating a three dimensional sound field exactly replicating the audio effect normally associated with complex multi-speaker systems, they say.

What's more, Yamaha's Intellibeam technology ensures optimum multi-channel set-up by constant and precise monitoring and analysis of sound output via the supplied plug-in microphone. Extra realism is delivered via the company's Cinema DSP technology - unique, says Yamaha - that provides a range of specially sampled acoustic spaces replicating different soundscapes; three modes are available for movies, music and sports.

Set up is simplicity itself, they say, with the unit offering a full auto set up function; one button tunes the entire system to the desired room space.
