Ampair Pacific 300 now in production
01 May 2006
It produces up to 300 watts of DC power for charging lead acid batteries, a 300% increase over the Pacific 100. This is 300 watts maximum at 25kts (12.6m/s) versus 100 watts maximum at 40kts (10m/s).
Ampair says this increase in power has been achieved by a combination of innovative design and technical advances.
The 3-blade turbine, with an increased diameter of 1.22m, rotates at almost double the speed of the original 6-blade design.
Rare earth replace the ceramic magnets and the turbine blades have a rigid aerofoil shape. This ensures the blades do not make whooping or motor-boating noises like flat bladed turbines, nor do they scream or flutter like flexible, thin bladed turbines.
There will, however, be the normal aerodynamic swish sounds associated with any balanced, rotating turbine.
Safe operation, on land or sea, is maintained by the new PowerFurl mechanical speed control that changes the pitch of the blades, limiting further increase in turbine RPM, at wind speeds above 25kts (12.6m/s). All three blades are mechanically linked to pitch together at the same wind speed.
The PR 300 regulator is field programmable for 12v or 24v operation and is configurable for different situations.
