Marine Polishing System from 3M
01 May 2006
At the heart of the new system is 3M Marine Imperial Compound and Finishing Material.
Designed by materials scientists at 3M, using abrasives that have been engineered to match the hardness of commercial marine gel coats, the product can be applied after sanding, using a wool pad, to remove grade P600 or finer sand scratch marks and gel coat oxidisation quickly and easily, leaving a high quality finish with no swirl or scratch marks.
3M Marine Imperial Compound contains no wax or silicone and has been optimised for machine application with air or electric buffers operating at 1500 to 2500rpm, using 3M Superbuff or Hookit compounding pads. It can also be applied by hand using a soft cloth.
For those seeking the ultimate shine, 3M says the 3M Marine polishing system is completed with an application of 3M Marine Finesse-it II Finishing Material using a slow speed polisher. A brand new formulation designed to help boatbuilders and owners achieve the highest possible finish quality on topside paint systems and gel coat, Finesseit II quickly removes swirls and leaves an immaculate glazed finish.
Finesse-it II can be applied with 3M's specially designed Superbuff finishing pads, which are designed for perfectly controlled polishing without leaving surface marks.
3M Marine Imperial Compound and Finesse-it II finishing compound are both available in 1ltr bottles.
