YDSA conference closes on a high note

Over 70 delegates attended the Yacht Designers & Surveyors' Association (YDSA) 2006 Annual Conference, held at the Cruising Association in Limehouse Basin, London on March 21.

This event, held for the last 14 years, has become a very worthwhile day for the core audience of marine surveyors together with other delegates from the insurance, finance and legal sectors of the industry, there to hear keynote speakers giving presentations designed to be both topical and informative.

The presentations included Dr Jason Smithwick talking about the new HullScant software developed by the Wolfson Unit to help the industry use ISO 12215 - Scantlings. The talk also included an overview of the RYA's Notified Body status by the RYA's technical manager Ken Kershaw.

Barnaby Wright and Pawel Wysocki from solicitors Hill Dickinson gave an insight into the revision of the Expert Witness Rules (July 2005).

A panel of insurers comprising Steve Baker of Haven-Knox Johnston, Julian Bosworth of Underwriting Risk Services and Martin Zetter of the Watkins Syndicate made the final presentation, focusing on what insurers look for from a damage survey.

"By securing the services of expert speakers that are able to give highly informative and often thought provoking presentations, we have ensured that the Annual YDSA Conference is now very well supported, " said Jane Gentry, YDSA chief executive.
