Racing takes place in Sunsail’s Jeanneau Sun Fast 37s, each with a crew of eight. The boats are collected on the Tuesday evening, after which there’s a supper in the Quayside at Port Solent, complete with two jugs of margaritas per boat.

There’s also a dry bag for each crew member, with some freebies from some of the participating boats.

Supper and margaritas are included in the fee, which is £654.00 + VAT = £768.45. An extra cheque is required for the charity donation of £100 to the John Merricks Sailing Trust.

The total of £868.45 represents excellent value for money for eight people to take part in an industry event that starts early evening on the Tuesday and goes on until the prizegiving after the racing on Wednesday. Lots of networking and drinking opportunities there…

Crews can stay on board on the Tuesday night, or use one of the many hotels in the area.

The target is to get four races in, with three to count. This, of course, depends on the weather and the race officer’s decision is final.

The prizegiving is scheduled for 17.15 in The Portmsouth Harbour Yacht Club on Wednesday, after which everyone is free to take their leave – we generally get away by 18.15ish.

The fleet is racing for the Lewmar Trophy, plus individual crew keepers and bottles of Sunsail champagne for the top few boats. Gas Check Marine is also offering a Magnum of champagne to the best placed boat without a Top 5 finish – that rewards consistency. And Oval Stainless is offering a trophy for the most improved boat through the series.

We’re sure Sunsail can find extra boats if you want to join the fun - call Peter Nash on 01892 545696 for an entry form, or download one from the event website at www.marineregatta.com
