Marinas bring tourist boom

The Sutton Harbour Group is reporting a boom in the number of people visiting Plymouth following a major expansion of marina facilities at Sutton Harbour, writes Katina Read.

This year is seeing the creation of a further 22 berths following the upgrading of the existing Cove Marina, which has been relaunched as Guys Quay Marina.

A further 24 berths have been created at the main Sutton Harbour Marina. Last summer 88 new berths were created at West Pier, bringing the total in the harbour to 467.

‘With three separate marinas we can offer boat owners a great choice of facilities whether it's a permanent berth or an overnight stay,’ said Mark Brimacombe, marina manager. ‘The combination of Sutton Harbour's sheltered waters, easy access to the Sound, Tamar and Yealm and its prime location just minutes away from shops, restaurants and the attractions of the Barbican mean that we are seeing a real boom in marina use.’
