Breathalysers for boaters

BREATHALYSERS: Department for Transport officials have confirmed that ministers are committed to introducing regulations that will bring about a breathalyser for non professional mariners.

At a meeting lat month with the British Marine Federation (BMF) and the RYA, the DftT outlined a timetable that could see regulations implemented by the 2008 boating season.

The BMF and RYA remain committed to ensuring that regulation, if introduced, will be fair and enforceable. Both organisations will continue to work constructively with government to achieve workable regulations and safeguard the interests of boat users and the industry.
