SOUTH COAST: A multi-million pound development plan for
Cowes Yacht Haven includes a hotel and improved marine business units and a
multi-storey car park, writes Iain Sutherland.
Cowes Town Waterfront Trust is in talks with Isle of Wight Council planners and the Environment Agency.
Chairman of Cowes Yacht Haven John Dudley said the hotel would complement the £1.2m events centre opened in 2005 and said a hotel chain might be interested in coming aboard. He said they could not approach anyone until they knew what the planners would allow.
The site would remain a boatyard while the land near the Birmingham Road entrance lent itself to a car park.
The South East England Development Agency and Cowes Harbour Commission will be consulting the public later in the year on their proposals for a marina and breakwater at East Cowes.
