Cowes powerboat festival in doubt

SOUTH COAST: The future of next year's Cowes powerboat festival held in August is in doubt after the organisers said it costs too much to run at the venue and sponsors Honda are removing four of its races from the event in favour of Liverpool, capital of culture, writes Iain Sutherland.

Powerboat P1 Management Ltd’s marketing director Robert Wicks said other venues on the calendar contributed to the costs and offers were being made by other European cities.

The Isle of Wight Council said it had paid £20,000 to secure the event three years ago and last year provided £10,000 in services. Council leaders hope to meet the organisers soon.
