COASTAL FORUM: The Scottish Boating Alliance (SBA) had a chance to wave the flag at the annual Scottish Coastal Forum and Firth of Clyde Forum conferences in late October and early November, writes Mike Balmforth.

The SBA message and needs are now clear: more consultation with the government and planners, a simplified coastal planning regime, perhaps as the result of a Scottish Marine Bill and more effort to adapt existing redundant facilities for leisure use.

Added to those are training and support from educational establishments to boost the skills of the workforce and greater input into the marketing and promotion of Scotland as a key sailing destination by VisitScotland and VisitBritain. The SBA is now planning a political launch early in 2008 which will hopefully grab the attention of our representatives and legislators.
