Mercia Marina is expected to cost £7m and contractor Land & Water is starting work this month, with a proposed completion date of July 2008.

Among the range of services will be boat hire, a pub and a café and there will be an adjacent holiday complex of 18 log cabins.

Also on the Trent & Mersey Canal near Lichfield, Kings Bromley Wharf Marina – which was extended fairly recently – has been sold to Castle Marinas of Nottingham. Apart from being a base for some shared ownership boats, Kings Bromley is currently devoted entirely to private moorings and supports no other trading activities. Some other Castle Marina sites do, however, major on boat sales.
