BWS relocates to Glasgow
01 Feb 2007
British Waterways Scotland has announced its intention to close the Lowland Canals office at the Falkirk Wheel and re-locate in Glasgow, writes Mike Balmforth.
This development will move the administration of the Forth & Clyde and Union Canals to Glasgow and, as a result, a number of staff at Falkirk have opted for a redundancy package rather than commute to north Glasgow.
Canal based businesses and enthusiasts have expressed disquiet at this development, believing that Falkirk, the hub of the Lowland Canal system, should be the location of the operations centre.
