The Aqueduct carries the Shropshire Union Canal Middlewich Branch over the A530 and the impact resulted in the spandrel wall above the arch ring being lifted 200mm upwards and 50mm outwards.

While the wall is now unstable and requires urgent repair, the navigation is unaffected at present and remains open. The A530 has been closed and will remain so until the works are complete.

The structure is Grade II listed and the works are expected to take four weeks. Contractors were due on site at the end of January.
