MDL buys Sparkes Marina

MDL Marinas last month acquired Sparkes Marina in Hayling Island for a rumoured price of between £7 million and £8.5m.
The marina, which had been owned by the Rizzi family since 1974, has 180 berths, swinging moorings and dry sailing facilities. The acquisition makes MDL Europe's largest marina group, owning and operating 19 major marinas and boatyards and, as a result, managing more than 6,000 berths.
MDL plans to update the marina facilities in the near future, although it seems unlikely it will increase the number of berths.
Mike Glanville, an experienced MDL manager, has been appointed to run the facility, which will keep its name as Sparkes Marina.
