MEMS supports redundant workers
01 Feb 2007
The UK's Marine, Engineering and Manufacturing Skills (MEMS) Partnership has launched a new programme designed to support workers in these fields who face the risk of redundancy.
The programme, which is being run in conjunction with IBP Training & Employment, offers a brokerage service in the Southampton, Eastleigh, Portsmouth, Fareham, Gosport and Havant areas that links pre-redundant workers with companies that have vacancies, setting up work placement opportunities and offering training to overcome skills shortages for the new role.
‘Many of these workers are highly skilled in their field and, due to a lack of support and the financial situation they face, they have to leave the sector to find work quickly, often taking on jobs that don't require their level of skills,’ says Richard Ransom, project manager at IBP Training & Employment.
This programme is about matching these people with jobs in the same or similar sectors that will benefit from their skills and training, he added. ‘Where there are skills gaps we will provide training to overcome these.’
Those at risk of redundancy, or any company facing the possibility of making staff redundant, are encouraged to contact the MEMS Partnership on 02380 652562 for help or advice.
