BSS warns on CO dangers
01 Jul 2007
The inquest into the death of Patrick Rowland (66) who died
in August last year on his narrowboat at Blisworth was held on May 23.
The inquest found it was an accidental death from carbon monoxide poisoning (CO). The coroner concluded the toxic fumes came from the solid fuel stove.
The stove, which had a cracked body, was being run with the doors open. Its flue terminal was damaged and the effectiveness of the boat’s ventilators was reduced by spiders’ webs and other general rubbish.
The Boat Safety Scheme is urging boat owners to be wary for risks of the deadly poisonous gas which cannot be seen or smelt.
