Greensford plans 130-berth marina near Huddlesford Junction

A planning application for a 130-berth marina at Streethay Farm near Huddlesford Junction on the Coventry Canal has been submitted to Lichfield District Council, writes Harry Arnold.

The application is by Greensford Ltd, which runs Fazeley Mill Marina on the Birmingham & Fazeley Canal, next to its junction with the Coventry Canal at Fazeley near Tamworth.

The company says it has a long waiting list for berths at its existing marina. The new proposal is ideally situated close to the junction with the Lichfield & Hatherton Canal restoration project which, when reopened, would increase the requirement for moorings.

Lichfield District Council has recently rejected two marina applications in its area, both for developments on the Trent & Mersey Canal at Kings Bromley, where there is an existing marina which has already been expanded.

The Huddlesford proposal is in a location that is less congested by locks and has initial backing from British Waterways (BW).
