Suffolk builder hopes for Olympic selection

A Suffolk-made dinghy recently took part in the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) trials to find a new high performance women’s dinghy, writes Debbie Cowan.

The Carbonology GT60, which was short-listed as a potential Olympic class for the 2012 London games, was built by David Chisholm and designed by Paul Bieker.

The boat is a direct development of the Bieker 1 Cherub and the prototype was built in five weeks to get it to the ISAF trials in Hyeres in April.

The GT60 was one of five dinghies tested out for the women's high performance dinghy. It will now take part in a final selection event in October.

‘We now hope to prove to everyone how valuable their support and commitment really is by going all out to earn the GT60 Olympic status,’ said Chisholm.
