Class D DSC
01 Mar 2007
Standard Horizon launched its new Class D DSC VHF radio, the GX1500E – small and compact, yet complete with all the features and functions and a very appealing price tag.
The compact 25 Watt GX1500E can be installed on smaller craft, such as RIBS and sports boats, yet it’s still ideal for larger motorboats and yachts. The unit also boasts one of the largest alphanumeric LCD screens available in a radio of this size, with a big rotary channel selector knob.
Also, by adding the optional RAM+ remote control microphone, it becomes a complete dual-station radio, with the option to communicate and send a DSC distress call from two separate onboard locations.
There is a choice of two remote microphones available to work with the GX1500E - the original CMP25B RAM+ fist mic, or the new VH-310 with alphanumeric telephone-style handset.
There’s customizable channel naming, allowing users to change the channel name for better channel recognition, plus straightforward, one-button access to Channel 16, along with versatile user-programmable scanning, priority scan and dual watch facility.
Position, date and time may also be displayed and, additionally, when interfaced with a GPS or chart plotter users may privately poll and display another vessel’s position on the display screen.
The front panel of the GX1500E is waterproof (IPX7), making it ideal for smaller craft where spray is likely, and customers also have the added reassurance of the radio being covered by a 3-year waterproof warranty.
The Standard Horizon GX1500E retails at £179.00.
