Cobra Davit designed to be stylish
01 Mar 2007
The Cobra Davit was designed to be an exquisitely stylish, touch of a button dinghy launch system - something that looks absolutely great and makes launching your dinghy the easiest thing in the world to do.
The composite structure of the davit uses layers of chopped strand matting, directional fabric, uni-directional glass and has a gel coat outer surface. In lay terms we use the directional and uni-direction fabrics in a layered formation to give a structure that is strong in all dynamic orientations.
The SWL of the Cobra Davit is a 300kg lift with a safety factor multiple of three. Electrical winch operation uses proven winch technology with a manual override. A slider support arm for the tender and a belly-band are standard.
The design allows for a webbing lift strap as it’s kinder to dinghies. Its aerodynamic looks and the use of high-tech materials give a distinct weight advantage. Finally the unit can be colour coded.
Using our own high end 3D cad system (Pro-E automotive industry standard that Cooney has been using since 1997), we were able to innovate the stylish design and beautiful curves with surface modelling functionality.
On a technical level, Cooney researched composites in great detail; a study was commissioned with Plymouth University to find the best materials and processes for the Davit. After this we used the expert guidance of the National Composite Network and the professional TWI for the Finite Element Analysis FEA and Stress Analysis of the Davit structure.
Safety is also extremely important and that is why we design with a 3X safety factor minimum.
