Raymarine’s AIS250 receiver module
01 Mar 2007
See them coming, and get out of the way, says Raymarine. Its AIS250 is a compact unit that gives the skipper the latest, constantly updated position and identity information on large vessels in their area, displayed in a clear graphic overlay on the Raymarine multifunction display.
Commercial ships, and other boats equipped with AIS transmitters, broadcast dynamic information such as speed, rate of turn, course and heading - updated very 2-10 seconds.
Additional static information, such as vessel name, MMSI number, radio call sign, type of ship and cargo, and even destination is updated every six minutes.
Raymarine says owners can now see this information on its multifunction display by fitting the AIS250 receiver.
It’s quick and easy to install and there is no need for a separate aerial - it uses the current fitted VHF aerial through the same antenna and cabling and it is even possible to plug FM stereo/radio into the AIS250 to get the best possible reception using only one aerial.
