Princess gets planning permission

Princess Yachts International has won planning permission to erect a new building in Plymouth as part of a £10m scheme to include covered moorings, pontoons and a car parking area, writes Katina Read.

The firm wants to build a new sales and commissioning facility in the Millbay basin area, saying it’s vital for the company's expansion and will allow it to build bigger boats, create jobs, and secure employment for its 1,700 current workers.

The scheme had been recommended for refusal by planning officers, who said they did not like aspects of the design, but at a recent council meeting in Plymouth permission was granted.

This decision was given extra importance after Sunseeker announced a deal to buy and expand the Legend Yacht manufacturing site in Portland with plans to create 500 jobs and expand the 11.5 acre site over the next four years.

It also comes as Princess launches its biggest boat to date – a 95ft Superyacht with features including an open air Jacuzzi and a price tag of £4m.
