Wave piercer for global tour

Conventional design thinking has been set aside by a Dartmouth designer and architect with the launch of a £1.5m virtually indestructible wave piercing powerboat, writes Katina Read.

MarySlim, with its 75ft long slim hull, has been built for a couple who plan to travel around the globe in her.

Designed by Nic Bailey, the boat is capable of ploughing through waves with the hull and windscreen constructed to withstand the pressure of 50 tons of water, ploughing through storms other boats may run shy of.

With a top speed of 38 knots, the powerboat is capable of covering 1,800 miles at a cruising speed of 30 knots before the need to refuel.

The revolutionary boat was built by Plymouth based Multimarine Composites, which is investigating the feasibility of using bio-diesel fuel to make her cleaner and greener to run.
