A Public Relationship

Hunt the press office

By the time you read this you’ll probably be at the Amsterdam RAI to visit or exhibit at The Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS).

As always, I would encourage those companies without a PR agency to take a little time to find the Press Office. Not an easy task if you approach through the main entrance, as the press room is tucked away on the first floor, past Boating Business in Hall 6, turn right and keep going in the Amstelhal 7.

The rewards of delivering media information, however, are high so the hunt is worth it.

The METS press room is visited by journalists from throughout Europe and these days even a few Americans seek out new product launches before they cross the pond. Unlike many show press offices which tend to grow with the show, the METS press room is actually now smaller than it was before the new layout.

This means there’s a scrum for the shelves and it’s well worth checking your information is still well displayed each morning and not buried under a pile of press kits.

Most good British business people will take time out to escape from Hall 3 and check out what the competitors are doing. So while you are touring, take a few media packs with you and deliver them personally to the magazine stands dotted around the show.

Remember too that this is a genuinely international event so it is worth including an ‘editors notes’ sheet in your media pack explaining a little about your company and what it stands for, to supplement the product information.

This is just in case the journalists are not familiar with the company, plus it provides more detailed information for a better report on the product.

Have a good show.
