BW launches mooring tender trial

WATERWAYS MOORINGS: British Waterways (BW) started its mooring tender trial on Friday October 23. Up to 40 vacancies will appear on the website over the first week ranging from very simple towpath moorings to offline berths offering more facilities.

Visitors can search the website at http://mooringtenders.waterscape.com by waterway, county, mooring length and distance from their postcode to find moorings that might interest them.

Each mooring vacancy will be listed on for 28 days and tenders published on October 26 will close at 1pm on Friday November 23. Anyone can browse the vacancies and – when the tenders have ended – view all the prices tendered.

People registering their details on the site can also receive emails as soon as new vacancies are published that match their preferences and tender for a mooring vacancy.

The 2,900 people who have submitted their email address over the past few months have received a message directing them to the new mooring vacancies area of waterscape.com. There have been 300 enquiries for the postal option (£10 registration fee) with 100 registrations – these people will receive details of any vacancies that match their recorded preferences.

The BW statement says in order for it to provide an effective service to the highest tenderers on the closing date, the release of the initial vacancies will be phased over the first week, after which vacancies will be added as and when they arise.
