ECBS: exhibitors downstairs, art show upstairs

Following the announcement last week that the Earls Court Boat Show (ECBS) was moving all its exhibitors downstairs in Earls Court 1, James Brooke says the balcony view will be preserved for visitors.

'One of the complaints at all boat shows is there is never enough room to sit down and have a snack and a drink,' he told BB, 'so we're keeping the art and photographic exhibition upstairs around the balcony.'

Snacks and drinks will be offered and people will be able to sit and eat, or simply gaze over the balcony at the show beneath them.

Brooke says the ice rink is planned to go downstairs with the other features, but the art and photographic exhibition could easily stretch right round the balcony.

The exhibitor list for the show is now posted on the show's website - www.earlscourtboatshow.co.uk - and offers an insight into what may well turn out to be a lacklustre show with few of the big glamour stands to attract visitors.

The show will have to rely heavily on its entertainment and features to attract its visitors.

Strangely, few exhibitors felt any irritation at finding themselves bumped downstairs, most of them remaining rather sanguine about the show and retaining the 'we're here for a punt' attitude.

● Riva is to show its Rivarama and Aquariva, together with an example of Riva’s past; a hand built, all wood, 1971 Riva Ariston. The boats will be exhibited by Riva’s UK dealer, Ventura.

● BoatQuays Mariah Boats UK is running a competition for ECBS visitors to win a Mariah SX18 sportsboat.
