Ellis recognised at SBS
01 Nov 2007
The surprise presentation was made as a ‘thank you’ from the industry to mark his 25 years of making its boat shows work, often through little distractions like a burst pool at ExCeL.
He began working on the Southampton Boat Show for Artman Partners in 1982. When the then British Marine Industries Federation (BMIF) bought the show he joined National Boat Shows (NBS) and has been there ever since.
He's worked on the SBS, the London Boat Show, the European Workboat Show, the East Coast Boat Show (where is Holliman?), the Marine Trade Show, the Mumbai Boat Show and the recently postponed Liverpool Boat Show.
'It was a 100% surprise,' Ellis said of his presentation. 'It was a well kept secret among my friends and colleagues.'
The presentation included accolades from Robert Braithwaite of Sunseeker International and Alan Morgan of Avon Inflatables. Former head of Artman Exhibitions, Norman Kemish, and former boss Peter Peacock were also on hand to congratulate Ellis.
Somewhat overawed by the event, Ellis told BB: 'I just get on and do the job. But I thoroughly appreciated the presentation and I want to thank everyone involved with it.'
