SBS exhibitor entertainment

SBS EXTRA: This year’s SBS showed a different approach to its customers from National Boat Shows (NBS) in its programme of evening entertainment, which went down extremely well.

Starting from a casual remark by Andy Sims of Cooney Marine that a few industry bikers get together for a ride out one evening, NBS MD Andrew Williams picked the idea up and developed it into a complete programme of events.

Boating Business offered its support as sponsor and SBS exhibitors were offered live broadcasts of the Rugby World Cup on the giant TV screen on the Chinese stand, the Boating Business Karting Challenge (won by Sea Sure) and the Honda Ride Out.
Honda came up trumps with its support for the ride out by supplying 18 brand spanking new bikes, including a couple of Fireblades. Letting the fast boys thrash off into the distance, the rest of the group of 30 – many on their own bikes and many with pillion passengers – rode from the Holiday Inn into the New Forest for a pub meal.
BB editor Peter Nash swapped his Suzuki SV650 for a neat little 600cc Hornet and, along with the reset of the group, enjoyed a nice (if slightly chilly) ride around the New Forest to the New Forest Inn at Lyndhurst. The return trip along the M27 took hardly any time at all...
NBS and BB hope to make an exhbitor entertainment programme a regular event at boat shows, so watch BB for news of the ExCeL January programme. And huge thanks to Honda for the loan of its bikes and riding gear.
