BFA Marine liferaft recall
11 Sep 2007
The company says valve failure may lead to complete deflation of the compartment, although the press release issued late on Monday afternoon has not been translated from the French very well, so BB recommends checking with the following service stations to be certain of what might happen:
Messenger Marine, Emsworth - C E Banyard, Lostwithiel - Jackson Yacht Services, Jersey/St Aubin - Suffolk Sailing, Ipswich - South Eastern Marine Services, Basildon - Premium Liferaft Services, Burnham and Ocean Safety in Southampton.
Contact details for each service station can be found on the BFA website at www.bfa-marine.com/en/
According to the press release: In the event both overpressure valves of the 2 independent compartments would happen to break, the life raft will not be functional anymore and be useless.
The release continues: BFA marine urges its owners to bring back without delay their liferaft to the nearest BFA approved service station, in order to check and potentially replace those overpressure valves.
The recall affects all BFA liferafts manufactured from 1997 until April 2007. Rafts with five-digit serail numbers affected are those numbered from 10001 to 50180.
Liferafts with 12 digit numbers affected are all those serial numbers beginning with ‘XDC’.
