Droitwich Barge Lock appeal launched
09 Oct 2007
The appeal was launched with a pledge of an initial £5,000 from the IWA’s Waterway Recovery Group.
Rebuilding of The Barge Lock – the first wide lock on the Droitwich Junction Canal in Vines Park in the centre of Droitwich – is part of the major project to restore the Droitwich Canals route from the Worcester & Birmingham Canal to the River Severn.
The Waterways Trust, which is running the appeal on behalf of the Droitwich Canals Restoration Partnership, with the support of the IWA, needs to raise the £100,000 by summer 2008 when the restoration work on the lock is due to start.
The Canal Boatbuilders Association (CBA) raised £100 with a raffle at its annual dinner - held during the IWA Festival – which was donated to the appeal.
Anyone wishing to donate to the appeal can find details online at www.thewaterwaystrust.org.uk
