Transmarine looking to bail out

SOUTH COAST: Aviation equipment supplier Transair launched its chandlery operation, Transmarine, in a blaze of glory in April 2005.

Just over a year later, the company had a 7,000ft, two storey chandlery in Shoreham Airport, and claimed mail order deliveries to over 100 countries.

At the time, Transmarine MD Tom Moloney told BB: ‘Transair is, as the name implies, an aviation company, but there's a huge crossover in products and suppliers between aviation and marine and, as a keen boating enthusiast for over 20 years, Transmarine has been a long held ambition.’

Plans for the future included extending the chandlery to give another 2,000 sq ft of shop space and moving into trade supplies. ‘Marine is around 20% of our business,’ said Moloney. ‘As we grow and order larger and large quantities we'll offer products through to smaller retail outlets.’

Alas, the high flyer has nose dived and is looking to parachute its chandlery business into a more successful environment.
