Last chance on Licensing Act
01 Sep 2007
SCOTLAND: The Scottish Inland Waterways Association (SIWA) has made strong representations to the Scottish Executive during the consultation period on the Licensing (Scotland) Act, writes Mike Balmforth.
SIWA chairman Robin Black told Boating Business: ‘This is our final chance to have the bill changed and continue to have small passenger vessels exempted from the bill.’
The Scottish National Party is now in government and, when in opposition, supported our case, said Black. ‘It has been a hard slog but I am hoping that there may be some light at the end of the tunnel.’
SIWA members were requested to respond by writing to MPs and MSPs to emphasis the case that small passenger vessels should be exempted, as there was no significant record of problems due to alcohol sales. Consultation closing date is October 14, 2007.
