Lynn marina could bring £13m boost

EAST COAST: Lynn’s new marina master plan estimates the massive waterfront development could bring up to 300 jobs, around 900 homes and a £13m a year boost to the town’s economy, writes Debbie Cowan.

Consultants Llewellyn Davies Yeang describe the scheme as ‘a vision that will utterly transform the site and boost the renaissance of Lynn’.

‘I am delighted the master plan has now been published as it means we can really begin to talk seriously to developers and follow up some of the early general expressions of interest,’ said Nick Daubney, leader of West Norfolk Council.

‘The master plan sets out a vision for the development of a marina along with the contribution it could make to the economic development of the town.’

The key features of the marina, which will be built on the east bank of the river to the south of the existing Boal Quay car park, would ideally include access to seagoing and inland craft.

Access to the River Great Ouse would be via a sea lock, but it would be more difficult to give access to boats heading into Lynn from Denver and inland waterways and ways of solving this are being investigated.

Other facilities at the 250-berth marina would include a boat repair yard, chandlery and management office and parking for boat owners.
