Over 75 delegates from the surveying, brokerage, insurance, finance and legal sectors of the marine industry attended the 2008 conference, which was held at the Cruising Association in Limehouse Basin, London, in March.

The event has been running for over 15 years now, but it was felt that the knowledge table arrangement has given the event a 'new lease of life', says Jane Gentry CEO of YBDSA (the joint body of YDSA and ABYA).

After the opening presentation, by Nick Ryley, president of the YBDSA, the new format, (piloted at last year's conference) involved delegates choosing three topics from different areas of expertise: the table leader then having the opportunity to talk through their chosen subjects, sharing ideas and information in the process and bringing everyone on the table up to date with topical issues.

Gentry added that 'delegates liked being able to select the topics of most interest to them, with the opportunity to have in-depth discussions about these specific subjects resulting in real value gained from the day.'

The topics on the tables were: SCV Coding, Fire Claims, Keelbolts and Studs, Propellers and Shafts, Boat Safety Scheme and Osmosis.
