Marine Industry Regatta entries near 30 boats

REGATTA: Entries for the 2008 Marie Industry Regatta are getting closer to the 30 mark with the addition this week of the Oval 316 and Barclays Marine Finance boats, taking us to 27 boats. Thornham Marina is expected to put two boats in next week, taking us to 29 boats. And the Earls Court Boat show is also a hopeful to take us to the 30 boats.

The regatta is an excellent day's sailing for crews of eight in Sunsail Jeanneau Sun Fast 37s. We collect the boats on Tuesday April 22, have a relaxed supper and a few drinks in the Portsmouth Harbour Yacht Club on that evening and stay on the boats overnight (or use a local hotel).

On the Wednesday we leave Port Solent at 08.00 for The Solent, where we sail (ideally) four races with three to count for the Boating Business Anniversary Trophy. We get back to Port Solent around 16.40 for the 17.15 prizegiving and leave around 18.30.

The Tuesday evening meal and the Wednesday racing is all included in the price, as is a £100 donation to the John Merricks Sailing Trust.

The total fee - it covers the bareboat charter, the Tuesday night dinner (plus a bucket of beer for each boat), Wednesday morning breakfast, a packed lunch for the eight crew during racing on the Wednesday, tea and buns at the prizegiving, all the trophies, plus keepers for the top four boat crews - is £868.45 including VAT.

A great day's sailing for the whole company; use it as a team building day. Or use it to thrash your nearest business competitor mercilessly. We don't care - we just want to get as many people out sailing as we can.

The Marine Industry Regatta is sponsored by Boating Business, Yachting Monthly, Practical Boat Owner and Saltwater, with support from Avon and Sunsail.
