The restoration of Ireland’s second cross country canal – linking Dublin with the River Shannon, the Shannon-Erne Waterway and the Lough Erne system in the north – began over 30 years ago.
Next year will see a whole series of celebratory events along the waterway and has been designated ‘Year of the Royal 2009’. A number of craft – particularly trailboats -from this side of the Irish Sea are planning to attend.
