Mastervolt supplying Palmer Johnson
17 Nov 2008
The equipment is intended for the company's all-aluminium 52m (170ft) Sports Yacht and is worth EUR120,000 per yacht. The hull is taking shape at Hythe Marine Park in Hampshire while Palmer Johnson waits for its new facility to be built on the old VT site at Woolston on River Itchen in Southampton.
The boat has five guest staterooms, a jacuzzi, swimming pool, powerful air conditioning and state-of-the-art communications, which makes the need for reliable 230/400V power paramount, says Mastervolt, even though some countries won't allow the on-board generators to be run in harbour.
This means hooking up to shore power, which can be of variable quality and dubious voltage and frequency. Mastervolt says this is no problem and will be installing its Shoremaster Compact 125 shore power converter and stabiliser.
'We're pleased our products have been chosen by such a prestigious builder,' said David Payne, Mastervolt's UK marine sales manager. 'The systems have been created specifically for global demands and we expect them to perform extremely well on this amazing new build.'
