Planning boost for Leeds-Liverpool marina

INLAND WATERWAYS: Inland waterways: Plans for a £1m marina in the shadow of Pendle Hill have been approved by councillors in Lancashire and work on the 102-berth Reedley Marina in Pendle on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal is scheduled to start this month.
‘I am absolutely delighted we have got to this stage’ said marina developer Jason Fildes. ‘The construction should start in early January and if all goes to plan we should have boats in the marina by July 2008.’
The Reedley Marina site lies between marinas in Skipton to the east and Chorley to the west. The plans include a marina office, a members’ room, washrooms and a laundry.
‘This facility will be a fantastic gateway to the region on one of the most historic canals in he country as well as being a safe and secure environment,’ added Fildes.
‘It will be Pennine Lancashire’s only marina and provide users of the Leeds-Liverpool with a much-needed facility. It’s a long cruise between Chorley and Skipton on a narrowboat.
‘But the real beauty of this location is the wonderful scenery. The marina has uninterrupted views across the valley up to Pendle Hill and across the Ribble Valley.’
Plans for ‘Reedley Marina’ had to go before both Pendle Borough Council and Burnley Borough Council as the land borders both local authorities, while the project has also been assessed by British Waterways.
‘We started this process 14 months ago and have worked closely with both local councils and the new marinas unit of British Waterways to reach this stage,’ said Fildes. Berths will cost £1,750 plus VAT per annum.
