US recovery in jeopardy
While the US began its long haul out of recession with growth of almost 4% in the three months to September 1992, a slower recovery was forecast for the US recreational craft industry.
Many blamed Dubya (not much change there, then) for not repealing the 10% luxury tax which had decimated the industry.
Fairline announced a pre-tax loss of £0.5m to September 30, 1992, compared with a £3.02m profit for 1991.
John and Jean Walker received the technical award for innovation at the Silk Cut Nautical Awards and the Marinex Group achieved BS5750 accreditation: a very youthful Geoffrey C Warde was pictured with the certificate.
Rights to the East Coast Boat Show had been acquired by RSVP Marketing after National Boat Shows ‘had decided not to organise the show’...
Finally, the London International Boat Show was set to open at Earls Court on January 7 with ‘around 570 exhibitors’, smaller than previous years, but with all of EC1 (including the 1st floor) and EC2 in use.
