Towpath bikers to the rescue

But, in a unique agreement with British Waterways (BW) specialist engineers from the company River Canal Rescue Ltd are being allowed to ride along the waterways to reach broken down boats in an emergency situation.
The company operates a 24-hour, 365-day, breakdown and recovery service for all types of craft on all UK inland waterways with three grades of membership, depending on the level of service required, much like the AA and RAC road services. Using motor cycles will increase the speed of service in emergencies.
Each situation will be the subject of liaison with local BW staff and they will be kept informed of the movement of the of the company’s bikes.
River Canal Rescue’s membership has increased rapidly and the company is expanded its services, including its recently launched series of engine service and familiarisation courses for boat owners.
