VAT ‘foul up’
Our front page carried the story that the VAT regime resulting from the completion of the Single Market was having a severe effect on the marine market. The fault was the differing interpretations of the EC VAT Directive.
And we still have problems verifying the VAT status on second hand boats 25 years later…
The recession seemed to be at an end, with Sam Newington reporting half year profits of £161,000 for Fairline against £613,000 losses in the same period in ’92. The Americans also seemed to be doing business, unlike the current situation over there.
Bill Smith wrote the East Coast Boat Show enjoyed an all-time record attendance (according to Martin Holliman) at its new Burnham venue after 14 years in an Ipswich field.
Bill and Glyn Foulkes opened their second Aladdin’s Cave outlet in Ocean Village.
