ECBS cut from 10 to five days
20 Feb 2008
'We brought the show forward by a week to avoid a clash with the Paris Boat Show this year as a significant number of exhibitors have been unable to exhibit at both Earls Court and Paris. We have also decided to run the show over a five day period instead of 10.'
The reason for this, says Brooke, is to substantially reduce the costs incurred by exhibitors, and to further differentiate the ECBS from the existing shows at both Southampton and ExCeL.
'Many international shows seem to adapt a certain style,' commented Brooke, 'and Miami is a good example; a show of such magnitude running over just four days.'
The new dates for the ECBS are Wednesday November 26 to Sunday November 30.
While the reasons Brooke gives for changing the already announced dates for his show are viable, many will see the cut from 10 to five days as being a sign the show is, perhaps, under funded.
BB was unable to contact all ECBS retailers for comment, but one suggested the loss of the second weekend might be crucial. The reduction in days will not help retailers at a show that already lacks appreciable footfall.
Brooke says he recognises a major problem with the inaugural show was the creative work on the advertising campaign and says this will be addressed for the 2008 show.
