Around Britain - by Canadian canoe
01 May 2008
Chris Cooper - a Yorkshireman who transplanted himself to British Columbia 30 years ago, is returning to the UK for a challenging journey around the British coastline - by canoe.
Spiritdancer, Cooper's traditional Canadian birchbark canoe will take him around Britains coastline
His aim is to involve youth and adults from both the UK and Canada in this journey, in order to take in the "culture, history, people, environment and most of all the challenge" of paddling our unique coastline.
The canoe itself is 42ft replica of a traditional Canadian birch-bark canoe, and is the same one Cooper built in 2004 to paddle the Alaska and BC Coasts - a journey of 2,000km in length, taking him 105 days to complete.
This journey will run clockwise around the UK coastline, starting out of London May 1 2008 on the river Thames and finishing in London in the autumn of 2010.
