Plymouth firm steels RNLI contract

SOUTH WEST: A contract worth £60,000 has been awarded to a Plymouth based metal fabrication company to make components for RNLI lifeboats, writes Katina Read.

Eden Engineering was given the contract by Babcock Marine and will fit six of the latest Tamar class of lifeboat used by the RNLI with items such as hand rails, masts and complex stainless steel elements.

The components will be made at the firm’s 30,000 sq ft purpose-built workshop in Saltash which uses laser-cutting technology. The vessels will be based at lifeboat stations across the UK and Ireland with work due to be completed by April 2009.
