Spirit of the Sea event launched

"Spirit of the Sea" will bring together a diverse range of marine themed festivals, parties and exhibitions as well as high profile competitive sailing and watersports.
Organisers say they intend to develop the event year on year, following in the lead of other Olympic venues.
Gary Fooks, Spirit of the Sea chairman and Dorset 2012 legacy manager, said: “With this new legacy event, we are following the example of the 1972 Kiel Olympic sailing host, where their maritime festival has grown to be one of the biggest and most successful in Northern Europe, generating €80m into the local economy annually.”
The event is funded by the South West Regional Development Agency, Dorset County Council and Weymouth and Portland Borough Council and supported by local businesses. The event will take place from 5 to13 July this year.
